Doves at Las Peñas
Cristian is the waiter at Las Peñas Lodge. He normally starts his day one hour earlier than us. Federico and Emiliano are in charge of the kitchen, and they have also had to be ready one hour earlier for breakfast. They are proud of their jobs and they put on their clean uniforms every morning before our guest wake up. Cristian knocks the door around 7:30am and we have cereals, fruits, yogurts, orange juice, toast, bread, and coffee before our guest get to the dinning room. Then we check if they would like some scrambled eggs with bacon, or omelette, or fried eggs with bacon and sausage.
“Good morning Sir” and a big smile is what you will get every morning. Sam was always the first one to be awake and he usually walked around the property in the morning. Then we all had a nice breakfast and after that we checked all our hunting gear. Every shooter should have his personal bag with ear protection, sunglasses, gloves, shoulder pad, extra shirt and a rain coat. It is also good to have some tape for sore fingers, a clicker for birds, and a pouch if you like to load yourself.
In this occasion we have used mostly semi-automatic shotguns 20 guage Banelli Montefeltro, and a 12 gauge Benelli Supersport. We modified chokes and we tried some cilinders too. We had ammunition 7 and 7 and half RD. And we had some Berettas Urika 20 gauge as back up.
We have all moved in a Mercedes Benz minibus that was very comfortable. Normally, the departure time was around 8:30am. Thirty minutes later we were all hunting great volume of doves. It was a great week. The flyways were very much condense with doves flying all day around, even at noon when we were having lunch. We had a great hunt at Antonios field and Dorita property.
At around 6pm we were coming back to the lodge, where Abby was waiting for us. Time for a beer, a gin tonic and some bourbon. Before dinner we always enjoyed an appetizer and we even stay in the bar or in front of the fire. We had some tender and delicious meet for dinner and one day we enjoyed the Italian pasta.
It is always nice to get to a warm and comfortable lodge after our hunts, and at Las Peñas we always enjoy camaraderie in this private cozy lodge. It is a lodge with six private rooms with their own bathroom, perfect for a group of friends.
We hope you will join us next, happy hunts.
