One Stop in Peru
Some people will make a stop on their way to Cordoba dove hunting and visit Peru for famous Machu Pichu or lovely Cuzco. It was not what happened to our friend Mike and Christopher. They had the bad luck to arrive Lima in a flight connection from US to come to Cordoba, and one of them realized his secretary had fill out his reciprocity fee with the wrong passport and expiration date info. That sounds like a problem, right?
Well, the Reciprocity Fee is a payment to the Argentinean government in behalf of the VISA that Argentinian have to pay to US to be allowed to get into the country. That is the reciprocity fee history. So, every American that comes to the country will pay one fee of 160 USD per 10 years validation to be able to be in dove hunt paradise! It is very important that you process the ticket online with time enough because unexpected could happen in a country like Argentina; a great country by the way, a paradise on earth.
I woke up 4am on a Monday to drive to Cordoba airport and receive our friends from San Antonio, and the surprise was to meet with 2 of them, because Mike and Chris have decided to do shopping in Lima (this is ironic). So with Chris Jr. and Russell we just laughed about the bad inconvenient and decided to go ourselves for some birds after a great breakfast at Plaza Real Lodge. We have been received by our waitress with some cold and fresh orange juice, and 20 minutes later we were enjoying scrambled eggs with bacon and barbecue sausage.
It was a sunny day and we were expecting a great hunt. By the time Martin, the head guide and expert shooter, left the lodge with our guests; Federico was setting the tent at the camp and all blinds for our guests. We hunted close to the roosting area, and we were lucky because the wind didn’t blow that first day. Gabriel and Dimas were the field assistants and we were at “La Doma” field, this is a great place even for low flying birds as well as for high doves too.
Following day, 4 am again and another trip to the airport to pick up our guests from Lima. Finally they made it to Argentina, and Mike was anxious to get to the field. It was dark when we left the airport and the sun started to shine by the time we were arriving to the Plaza Real Lodge. That Tuesday the wind was really strong and hitting the birds was not easy. We moved our clients a couple of times to better spots, and Mike finished the day with over a 1000 doves in his bag. Mike is a very good shooter and he is passionate about hunting. He is a great man and came with his 18 years old son Chris; and 2 coworkers joined them in this great journey to South America. That day we hunted in “Rosario 1”, a great field, especially in the afternoons. The following days we hunted in “Señora Elsa” Field and “Los hermanos Correa” Field.
They have all hunted with 20 gauge semis Benelli Montefeltro with modified chokes and 7 ammunition. Only Thomas shot with a Beretta 20 gauge over and under for a couple of days. Thomas is from San Antonio too, and he is one of our reps on sales in US. Thomas was in Chile studying Spanish and jumped to Cordoba for 2 complete days of fun.
The favorite drinks at the lodge were Margaritas, Red Bull and Absolut vodka and Jack Daniels with coke. We enjoyed every day at the fire pit with an appetizer and some of our guest had massages every night.
It was a great trip and now we are at the airport waiting for an old friend that is coming visit us for a trip of a life time, we will let you know about it in our next report. I just would like to remind you what Christopher Fare had said the first day: “I am as excited as when I was 8 years old and I shot my firs dove”; or what Mike had said: “There is no way I will be able to explain what dove hunt means in Cordoba, and what you guys do to please us. You hadn’t let us carried or helped in anything and you had treated us like kings. We hope to give you back this hospitality in San Antonio someday”. That is what makes our life different, when we are able to be above expectations and make memories that will be there forever.
To all our good friends at Pointer Wingshooting,
Happy Hunts
