NEWS & REPORTS
Good old friends!
“Good old friends”, that is what we need when we go hunting. And when my friend Kelly called me like a month ago and said: “Pablo, I will be going to Cordoba in a week”, I just said “fantastic!! We will hunt some doves”. I was driving to the San Javier duck hunt lodge and after that called, I told Martin, the head guide, that one great friend wanted to enjoy some days with us, and he will be coming with his son Sam who I met when he was 13 years old! Amazing!
The introduction to the story is that I met Kelly in 2005 hunting doves in Cordoba. His father Jack (his real name is John) and his mom Laura brought all the family to hunt and have fun and I was lucky enough to be their guide at that time. I had the pleasure to meet Kelly, Larry and John Roach. Thanks to that hunting trip, we ended up having lunch in “Tu Cocina”, in Dallas and drinking some margaritas. I had also the luck to have been invited to Jacks house and to stay in Larrys home with his wife Tracy, and the lovely girls. And despite the fact that I had to read funny books to the girls every night, I love staying with them; with my friends, with people who I enjoy hunting and being in touch every month. I am looking forward to the day we will be able to go hunting with the girls and my kids, that are the same age! That will be lovely!! And it will happen someday soon.
So, I picked up Kelly and Sam, and drove them to the hunting area close to Macha Roosting area. We hunted close to Ojo de Agua. Our field team and field assistants were waiting for us, ready for rock and roll. After a safety speech we started the hunting day. Our friends were surprised with the big volume of birds, and also by the low flying. They smoked tons of shells with a 20 gauge Beretta o/u and with a Benelli 12 gauge semi auto, supersport model. I told them that we have had a great autumn season in the flat lands, and also in late June in the hills area. We still have a big volume of doves in Cordoba, despite the hunters that visited us and some other outfitters.
We have been hunting some birds in the last weeks mostly in Macha area, but before that we had some great hunts in the north, like 40 miles from Totoral City, and also close to road # 17. For the next couple of weeks we expect to hunt close to Plaza Real Lodge in the Macha Hills, with some great groups of friends that are coming to visit us again like Derek Shepherd, Fred Franklin and Wayne Graham; and with some new guests that have been recommended to us like Mike Riordan and Mark Marlow. We are all very excited about it and we have our team ready to continue rolling for the next couple of months! We hope you should be the next one; at Pointer Wingshooting we are always ready to take you to the field!
These days, the duck season and the mixed bag season is getting to an end, and that is a sad story, because we love to be in the field, to go hunting, to make jokes, to tell stories, to make our guests have a trip of a life time; and this is going to be our last week in San Javier for mixed bag with Guichardd pax. We will write a report next time about this last season. Thanks to all the people at San Javier Lodge.
Please remember, every time you come to Cordoba, pack a good shoulder pad (Past could be a good option) and ear protection (Peltor is an option). Also bring some good sun glasses and a cap or a hat. If you are a tall person, a rubber pad extension will be a lot of help. Check our gear list and do not hesitate to contact us for further info. Also please read about safety rules in our website before your next trip.
You should be the next one, let us know by email and we will assist you 24/7.
My best,
Pablo Aguilo
