Come Over and Check Out This Place

If our guests are coming through Chile, we know that it won’t take them longer than 50 minutes to and in Cordoba, the world capital for dove hunting. We picked them up, introduce ourselves, help them with the luggage and then we drive them to La Loma Lodge, their accommodation for the four exciting days they have ahead.

They have their mind focused in the next day, their first encounter with big volume bird hunting. Paola, our lodge manager, wakes them up at 7.30 and they can smell the coffee from their rooms. Delicious scrambled eggs, bacon, cereal, milk, fruit. All they need for a hearty breakfast before they get to the field.

When we got there we introduced our guests to their field assistants, but for two of them it was not an introduction, it was just a “such a long time, it’s great to see you here again!” Andrew and his brother Glen were visiting us for the second time. They had already been hunting with Pointer Outfitters and when they decided to come back they had one special request: They wanted Tata and Dani to be their field assistants and that could not be negotiated!

If you have already been hunting with us, you know that our field assistants are absolutely passionate about their job and they have fun with their hunters, cheer them and encourage them non stop. If you haven’t been hunting with us, beware. You will laugh till your eyes cry and your stomach hurts with your field assistant!

So the day started the fun in a field where the volume of birds was just amazing. The area is called Los Quebrachos, just about 30 minutes from the lodge. Our field assistants help their hunters loading their guns, two guns for each hunter, so that they can enjoy every single minute of the fun.

Millions of birds flying.

When we wrap the morning hunt with a delicious lunch break, plates loaded with meat grilled by the fire, I discover that these great guys are not very far from achieving the 1000 birds mark! And they still have a full afternoon ahead of them.

Andrew, for example, got more than 600 birds in just one morning. Tata and Dani play music at the blind and have fun with their hunters. They are as happy as them to have had the honor to be asked as field assistants again!

Our chef Gaby spoils our hunters with good food, he has cooked some doves in red wine, and he has also made some dove tacos and doves cooked in spices before the typical barbeque for lunch. Our guests enjoy a variety of wines from well known wineries.

After lunch, I see the hunters get anxious, they are already seeing the birds fly in flocks, coming back to their roosts, and they know every minute is valuable when it comes to achieving the 1000 birds mark.

My guess is, all of them will be requesting massage tonight after the intense hunt. And so it is!

For me, as a guuide, the important thing is that I see in their faces they had an awesome time. They achieved their goals and they are ready to enjot the relaxation time at La Loma Lodge. Wine and cocktails by the fire and some appetizers.

What a way to wrap the day!

You should be the next one!
