Longtime Friends in Argentina

We welcomed this group at 8.30 am on the 22nd of June. Nice time to arrive, they had the entire day ahead of them. Fede and Gabriel were our drivers in charge to pick them up from the airport. Despite the tiredness from the long flight, they were very enthusiastic and happy.

They couldn’t wait to get to the field and start the fun. Everything was ready, waiting for them at the field. At midday, we got together at the lunch camp and our guests were very happy. They started taking pictures to the asado that was being cooked, our version of bbq. They asked about the name of the different meat cuts and the ingredients the chef was using. Gaby, our chef answered all these questions with his unique enthusiasm. Pork, beef, chicken, dove. Loin, ribs, flanks. The lunch was savoured and then our guests went to the hammocks to enjoy a short nap to recover some energy before hitting the field again. This time, they asked to shoot in pairs, all of them but Heath, who wanted to do it on his own. He had been to Argentina before. His friends were nuts about the experience, so, so excited! They said it was way better than the shooting competitions they had the chance to attend in their home countries.

After some hours shooting nonstop, we got back together at the camp were we had had lunch. They were very happy and started exchanging annecdotes from the day. We decided to call it a day, so we served them some whiskey on the rocks for them to enjoy with the sunset.

The next day was more relaxed. After a delicious and hearty breakfast at La Loma Lodge, we started our way to the field.  The euphoria you get the first time you come hunting to Argentina had started to wane, giving our guests more concentration to focus on the shots. Besides, they knew they had a full day ahead and the birds were abundant, so they decided to enjoy the experience. They were very surprised by the excellent service provided by the field assistants. Not just the quality help with the guns but also how much fun they were and how happy they were to be working assisting them. When that day was over, Larry was astonished. He couldn’t believe how many birds he had shot down. His friends were very happy for him!

When we got back to La Loma Lodge, we gave Larry his present for shooting down 1000 birds in a day. He had pictures taken with his new T-shirt with a big 1000 stamped on the front. Then his friends did the same, just to cheat their friends and make them believe they had achieved that number too!

Louis and Robert were very good at Spanish so they spent a lot of time telling us about their lives. There was also a competition. Guests versus field assistants. They just wanted to celebrate, it didn’t matter who was winning! The next day, they asked to have lunch together with the field assistants, to say goodbye and thank you at the same time for such a great time spent together.

The last day, the questions we heard went like “Why did we come for such a short time?” “This is fascinating, when are we going to come back?” They promised to be back in the near future, with  a bigger party and for a longer stay. They praised us for our work, and we do not wish to brag about it, but it feels good, the reward of a job well done!

You should be the next one!
