Admirable Shooting Skills
Picture this: You and your wife are passionate hunters. You really love dove hunting and you’ve been hunting in different places around the world. Now add one of your friends and his wife in a plane to Argentina. Can it get any better?
Theresa, Darryl, Kenny and Shelley arrived to Cordoba at midday after spending one night in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina. We welcome them and took them straight to the field. I tell them it’s just 40 minutes away from the airport and I can see their enthusiasm growing. Gabi, our star chef, had been preparing all the lunch camp to welcome our guests. They have already been in Argentina, so they have tasted our well famed beef; however, when you have lunch at the field it will be more than just the food. It’s the experience of sharing a lunch in the middle of the fields of Cordoba, the dream of every passionate bird hunter, together with your friends! We let our guests enjoy different meat cuts, tender loin, pork belly, some chicken, sausages, ribs… All cooked to perfection, well seasoned with a delicious chimichurri, the argentine sauce. Malbec wine is also on the table and our guests enjoy the relaxation time together with the delicious food.
After lunch, it’s time to start the fun! Like I’ve said, our guests are passionate hunters and we can see it in the high shooting average. It’s just the first evening, but I have this feeling that they are going to shoot more than a thousand birds in one day… The ladies of the group chose shorter Benelli Montefeltros and Berettas Urika 391 Cal 20 that fit small body frames. This is important because it means they were more comfortable and also, got better shooting precision as a result.
First and foremost, safety speech. Then, our guests are ready in their spots to begin hunting. At about 3.30 pm the birds start flying back into their roosts. At this time of year, they migrate during the day to the fields in the lower areas to look for food. There, the harvesting season is full on and our guest will also get the chance to see the local farming activities.
Gabi and Santiago are the designed field assistants for our guests. They have fun together! After about three hours and a half, all of them had fired 750 shells each. My predictions start to be confirmed…Great hunters indeed! Darryl mentions the amount of birds is just unbelievable. They are all very satisfied with the service at the field.
We start our way back to La Loma Lodge, our preferred accommodation for couples who want a relaxing atmosphere. La Loma is a traditional Estancia built in 1908 and renovated in 2014. The news is that the fire pit of this lodge has just been renovated again to offer more comfort to our guests. All our guests enjoy sitting there by the fire, sharing the annecdotes of the day with a nice drink. Most of them sit there when they get to the lodge from the field and again when they finish dinner and even in the mornings to soak up that nice first light. So now it’s even nicer and more comfortable! Delicious appetizers are served here, cold cuts, chips, peanuts, olives, cheese, and some special snack prepared by the chef (which is always a surprise!)
Paola, our lodge manager has everything ready to wait for them. The massage therapists are ready to welcome our guests and give them a super relaxing massage sesión to recover for the next day. So necessary after so many shells and birds shot down!
We can conclude that the day was amazing. I leave my guests at the lodge. I’ll meet them the following morning after a delicious, hearty breakfast. But the day is not over yet. To ensure the best experience, we clean all the guns, the vehicles and organize the camp for the next day.
P.S. our guest were really, really good hunters. They had admirable shooting skills!
You should be the next one!
