NEWS & REPORTS
BBQ and Hunting
The colors in the trees have changed offering picturesque views. It’s fall in Argentina in May and the mornings get very cold but the days are warm, allowing our guests enjoyable hunting days. Our guests Travis, Thomas, Daryl and Thomas are in Argentina for the first time.
At about 7am the breakfast is served at Plaza Real Lodge. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, juice, cereal, milk. Everything to make our guests feel at home. At lunchtime, they will have the chance to taste the delicious local food.
Plaza Real Lodge is located just one hour drive away from the airport, and 40 minutes away from the hunting fields. Our scout team is constantly researching the hunting areas to ensure the volume of doves is great. Nonetheless, the traveling distances are always kept as short as possible. Before we go to the field I briefly explain how we will go about the day. I remind my guests not to forget they hunting gear, shooting gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, ear protection and some insect repellent just in case. 40 minutes later we arrived and see that birds are already starting their day. Our field staff is already ready waiting for us with all the equipment set. Our guests have asked to use semi-automatic guns. We also have over and unders cal 28, 20 and 410. When our guests are in their spots with their Benelli Montefeltros Cal 20 and their field assistants ready, let the fun begin!!!
Part of the scouting process by our field assistants is to select good spots for our hunters, with good shooting angles, some shade and place to sit. The day is long and although our guests will be having fun, they will want to sit down at some point!
At about 12,30 pm our master chef lets us know that the Asado is ready. Asado is our version of barbeques, delicious and abundant cuts of grilled meat cooked by the fire of local wood. Ribs, flanks, loin, sausage, chicken and doves, too! Paired with Malbec wine and sweet deserts, lunch is a great time to share the anecdotes of the hunting so far.
We offer our guests the option to have massage sessions of 45 minutes back at the lodge. After an intense day of hunting, many of our guests do not hesitate to say yes!
We hang hammocks by the shade and our guests have a 30 minute nap to recover before the hunt in the afternoon. The first birds start arriving at 3.45 p, and our field assistants get ready to start. We have permanent scouting of the field at this time of year. Birds migrate to lower areas where corn, soy and sorghum are being harvested.
The day in the field is a lot of fun, laughter can be heard from the lunch camp and I know they are having a good time. There’s always a character that doesn’t take long to fill a shell with feathers. And then they all explode in laughter! They get good numbers of birds shot down and have a great time. We can tell by the smile in their faces!
We pick them up from the spots in the van and we make the way to Plaza Real Lodge. There, more appetizers, drinks and food awaits. The fire will be on, inviting them to share more anecdotes and relax. The next day, more birds and fun in the field.
You should be the next one!
