So Much Fun at the Field
It’s time to start a new day in the world capital of dove hunting. The weather is nice, just as we predicted it, and it announces the day will be great. Temperatures are getting colder, which is a relief after a hot summer. The warm temperatures allow our guests to enjoy great days of hunting.
Breakfast is served at La Loma Lodge, our accommodation that makes guests feel the comfort of a home with the facilities of a hotel. While they have breakfast, we brief them about the hunting day we have ahead so that our guests know what to expect.
At about 8.30 our guests are ready to go to the field. Just 40 minutes away from the lodge in our comfortable Mercedez Vans and Toyota pick up trucks. The shotguns, shells, the camping set, everything is ready waiting for our guests. Our field assistants have set up the hunting spots. Let the fun begin!
A couple of hours later I welcome the first hunter back in the lunch camp. We have a glass of red wine ready for him, and needless to say, a delicious lunch awaits. Our chef Gaby prepares a different appetizer for each day. Today, it is dove tacos with our traditional sauce called chimichurri o chimichanga. There’s no doubt that you will like it. It might be difficult to pronounce at first, but it wont take you long to start asking for it.
When the full party is at the table we start lunch. More doves for starters, wraped in delicious bacon, onions and bell peppers. After that, the argentine sausage makes its way into the table together with flanks, loins, ribs. Our barbeques have a special flavour here because we grilled them to the fire of local wood. Algarrobo and piquillin give the meet a delicious smoked flavor. After desert, prepared by our cook Mary, our guests can choose to have a quick nap or just enjoy the scenery and a good talk with friends.
Around the areas where we hunt, harvesting is taking place at this time of year, making the movement of the birds a bit unpredictable. They fly to the areas being harvested which can result in quiet mornings but internse bird volume in the afternoons, or just the opposite. Intense bird volume mornings and relaxed afternoons. We always have plans B, making sure no matter what, our guests can enjoy the awesome hunting we’re renowned for.
In this case, by 2.30 pm we see the first birds start flying and we know it’s time to start. Our field assistants have cleaned the guns and are waiting for the guests on each spot.
We have new guns and we cannot wait to hear about their performance from our guests. They say the guns are up to standard and we are very proud. The guns are Benelli Cal 20, Berettas cal 28 and, our favourite Brownings 525 cal 410. Todd, Brett, Edwards and eric are extremely satisfied with the service and the hunting they’re having.
After we pick up our hunters from their spots on the van our guests are ready for a round of beers to celebrate. It’s time to go back to the lodge, to enjoy more delicious appetizers before dinner, by the fire pit. They claim to still be full from lunch, they also said they had never had so much meat in a day! They have asked for massages and they are relaxed after them, ready for some pasta for dinner, a good change from the delicious meat at the field! I leave them in good hands, all the staff at La Loma Lodge would take great care of them. I leave them to go and get everything ready for the following morning.
You should be the next one!
