Friends Doves and Lots of Fun
Andrew, Clinton and Daniel arrived to Cordoba on the 14th of March, very early in the morning. We picked them up from the airport and drove them straight to the field for them to enjoy their first hunting session in Argentina.
The area where the field is located is called La Para, and among our guests is know as the River or Doves, simply because doves come in a flow like in a river, or like mosquitos in a swarm. So, you might think I’m exaggerating, but if you ever happen to talk to someone who has been hunting with us before in this area, you’ll know what we’re talking about. So our guests enjoyed an awesome day, with fantastic weather, which allowed us to have a great hunting.
In the evening, we drove our guests to Plaza Real Lodge, their accommodation for the stay in Argentina. Plaza Real is one of the best options for dove hunting in Argentina. It is located in the province of Cordoba, in the center of Argentina, 50 miles (100 km) north of Cordoba’s International Airport. The driving time from the airport to the lodge is one hour.
Although guests come back from the field with bellies still full from the lunch at the field, Plaza Real is waiting for them with more snacks, appetizers and drinks.
The following morning the weather had changed, and rain made the way to some fields a bit difficult to access given that gravel roads and rain do not make a good combination. However, our aim is to make your trip hassle free and let you enjoy it to the greatest extent possible. So that day we went back to the same field, with easy and comfortable access. The weather got better by the hour which also meant the hunting got better. At 1pm we made a break to enjoy a delicious, abundant lunch. Our cook had prepared a delicious barbeque, what we call asado. But asados here might be slightly different from what you are used to. Here, we go big when it comes to meat. You can enjoy different cuts and types grilled to the fire of local wood. Dessert is another highlight of lunch break. Our typical treats like flan con dulce de leche leave our guests asking for more. After such abundant lunch, a siesta was in order. Hammocks were hanged by the shade of local trees. However, the decision was not to stop to rest but to go on hunting before the storm started.
On the third day, we took our guests to an area called Santa Rosa de Rio Primero. The day was sunny but windy; howver, this was not a problem. The birds were abundant. Our cook Gabriel had prepared yet another delicious lunch. After that, we hunted for a couple of hours but started our way to the lodge earlier than usual, after our guests’ request.
The great amount of doves is paired with excellent guns in Argentina. Pointer Wingshooting owns over one hundred shotguns. The guns are manufactured by Beretta and Benelli, mainly. Most of them are 20-gauge semi-automatic Benelli Montefeltros or Beretta Urekas. If a client is more confortable shooting a different gauge or prefers an over-under, Pointer can accommodate these requests. We have shotguns in gauges 4-10, 28, 20, and 12 and an assortment of Beretta Silver Pigeon and Browning Citori over-unders. Each night after the hunt, the field staff breaks down every gun to the firing pin to and given an extensive cleaning. This guarantees that every hunter will begin the day with a well-oiled, jam-free shotgun.
The last hunting day was in Jesus Maria, an area very close to the lodge. The day was quiet and relaxed, the siesta was longer but just because the best was to come. At about 4 pm, the intense flow of birds started, giving our guests the chance to have a great hunting session until 7pm. After that, we made our way to the lodge Plaza Real. There, professional massage therapists were waiting for our guests who had ask for some massage to relax sore muscles. Those who hadn’t had massage enjoyed good wine and delicious empanadas, another typical dish of Argentina. Dinner was enjoyed among annecdotes shared by the group. Bed time was earlier.
The following day a tour in Cordoba city, the capital of our province, was waiting for them. Our Travel and Leisure department had organized the tour for them. In this tours, we drive our guests to the city and a professional guide takes them to the most important or historical spots in the city. The places visited, of course, are organized depending on our guests desires. Shopping for wine, leather and silver crafts is usually a must during the tour. After that, we drove our guests to the airport and waved them good bye.
You should be the next one!
