Dove Hunt Camaraderie

These guys flew over night from Houston and Dallas to get to Buenos Aires early in the morning. After flying on two rented private jets, we met them in Cordoba at one pm that day with plenty of time to go to the field and hunt some doves.

It was nice to meet my old LSU (Louisiana State University) fun friend JJ JOHNSON again. We had a barbecue together in January in Dallas, and I have to confess that it was as good as “Hard 8” barbecue place or “Coopers” in Llano Texas, some of the best barbecue places in all Texas.

When these guys arrived we did not know what the future was holding for us. I had the pleasure to meet “Big Head” Montgomery, a great person with a huge heart, who will always be there if somebody needs a friend. He is as big as a black bear in Alaska, but he is from small town in Texas and he is only scared of Mrs. Montgomery. “His son Wade also, is quite a character and together with Parker were always the last ones to stop shooting. You do not want to know how much ammo these two kids shot. Well, I’m sure Parker’s father doesn’t want to know either.

We have done a cap for each of our guests with their own names on it, and I had a big issue when Robert “big head” Montgomery tried it on. “Yes, you bet, my cap is not big enough”, but he wore it anyway to please all of us. Mr. Big Head was my official copilot every day on the way to the field and also on the way back; and I had to drive like my grandma, otherwise he was afraid.

I am not going to tell the story about my friend “Big Head”snowboarding on the second floor in the stairways of his fraternity house. That is a great story that he should tell everybody about; you can imagine Scott and Parker laughing when he told us the story all the way back to the lodge.

Scott and Parker are great fellows that were always worried about everybody having fun. Scott speaks fluid Spanish and his son Elkin does too. They own a great Ranch in Texas that we will probably visit someday. Scott and his son are great shooters and they were the only guests who shot 4.10 gauges, something very challenging on windy days. In fact, they had a very good average with that small caliber.

Parker just surprises all of us. He is originally from Louisiana, New Orleans; and we didn’t know he liked the music that much. The second night with this group, as a surprise, we had organized a “Mariachis” music show, and very slowly the passion and happiness started to come out of our friend. He invited our Host Maria to dance and show us some skills that nobody knew about it. He ended up dancing on the table for some minutes making a show. Everybody was clapping and now is one of the greatest memories of this last trip.

It is all about camaraderie and fun, and nothing better than all members of a hunting group getting together at the end of the day talking about hunting and making jokes.

Our expert guides and field assistant were there all the time to make sure our guests were safe and they were having fun. Probably, nobody will forget that evening in the sorghum field. It was great hunting day.

I hope to see you all again soon,

My best,

Pablo Aguilo
